Connecticut Pharmacy Technician Certification Requirements

Connecticut outlines a set of requirements that must be met before an individual can become a pharmacy technician. These include:

  • Being at least 18 years of age
  • Obtaining certification from PTCB or another certification program that the Connecticut Commission of Pharmacy has approved
  • Request registration as a pharmacy technician via a written application that is submitted to the State Board of Pharmacy in Connecticut
  • Include a personal check or money order for the registration fee that has been made out to “Treasurer, State of Connecticut”

The Commission of Pharmacy in Connecticut has approved the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). This exam has a total of 90 questions that must be completed within two hours.

Within the exam, there will be 10 trial questions that are not known to the test taker. These are not scored. The remaining 80 questions, however, are scored.

In order to pass, you must have a scaled score of at least 650. If you do not have a satisfactory score, you will need to wait a minimum of 90 days before retesting.

The median pay for a pharmacy technician, according to the BLS, was $33,950 per year as of the latest available data from May 2019. The median hourly wage was more than $16 per hour.

With the healthcare industry projected to experience continued strong growth, there will be a sustained demand for Connecticut pharmacy technicians. Obtaining certification for this invaluable career promises to provide advancement and opportunities.
